My Year 2017: Reviewing and Reflecting the year!!!

While I was going through YouTube videos, a video entitled “My Year 2016” by Sam Kolder caught my attention. After watching the video I was inspired to share my experience as well. And here it is; My Year 2017! A huge thanks to Sam Kolder for the inspiration. 🙂

The Year 2017: Major Global events!!!

    • Beginning of Trump Era!
The Year 2017 began with Donald Trump winning the presidential election in the USA.
    • Millions of people worldwide joined the Women’s March in response to the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States. 420 marches were reported in the U.S. and 168 in other countries, becoming the largest single-day protest in American history and the largest worldwide protest in recent history.
    • The Weinstein scandal (#Metoo Campaign)
In October, the New York Times published a bombshell investigative report accusing Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, 65, of sexual harassment over several decades. This campaign got viral over the world with millions of people revealing the stories of harassment.
    • Death of Chester Bennington.
Linkin Park was the reason why I started listening to English songs and the death of Chester Bennington was hard to comprehend. A great singer, a talented artist, an icon of Linkin Park as well as Rock Music, and then he passed away. July 20 will be remembered as one of the darkest days not just for Linkin Park, but for Rock Music as well. RIP Bennington!
    • In March, Zimbabwe put a ban on the beating of all children in the country.
Less violence = a better world!
    • North Korea’s move against the World.
Successive U.S. presidents have insisted that they would prevent North Korea from acquiring nuclear weapons. They backed that up by offering carrots, imposing sanctions, and threatening military action. North Korea hasn’t listened. In early September, North Korea conducted its sixth nuclear test.
    • Catalonia’s Independence

The Year 2017: Major Happenings of Nepal!

Nepal Election: Local and state/provincial election; Election was the major highlight of the year 2017 in Nepal. Many things were overlooked because of the elections held in different phases. Also, there was a number of heartbreaking incidents such as flooding in the southern part of Nepal i.e. Terai belt.

A movie song Kutu ma Kutu revolutionized the YouTube scene. It’s viewed more than 41 millions times on YouTube which is more than the total population of Nepal. If you’ve not watched the video, here’s the link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwIWfvW3SD8. Similarly, a lot of quality Nepali movie songs are on the rise. In the year 2017, YouTubers have grown exponentially with their followers as well as with quality. Some of them whom I follow regularly are Sisan Baniya, Girish Khatiwada, Random Nepali among many others.

My Year 2017; reviewing and reflections!

The year 2017 seemed like a month and it’s already time to bid goodbye. But no worries; it’s just a matter of time. Everything that comes has to leave anyway. 2017 goes and 2018 comes. The process continues on and on and becomes a cycle!

Nevertheless, 365 is a big number. A lot happened in my life during these numbers. Most of the times were bliss while some of them were emotionally breaking. I promised myself to make the best out of 2017. I could fulfill some of the promises I made and so happy with those accomplishments. Sadly, some of the vows went in vain. My bad!!!

Happiness
Happiness Jar!!!

Happiness Jar!!!

Starting happiness jar was one of the best decisions I took in 2017. Happiness jar is all about noting down all the happy moments that occurred during the week. I read those happy moments at the end of the year 2017 and I was left spellbound. I’m surely continuing this in the year 2018 as well.
Happiness, Year 2017

Travel

I had promised to trek to at least 5 destinations in 2017. I did 4 treks including a trek which turned out to be an incomplete one. Those four treks were Tsho Rolpa in Dolakha, Langtang in Rasuwa and it was the incomplete one, Landruk and Australian Base Camp treks in Kaski and Gosainkunda lake trek. Similarly, I traveled to 10 new districts in the year 2017. And the total number of districts traveled so far has reached to 37. Interestingly, I was able to travel each and every month during the year which included travel to two countries as well.

  • January: Pokhara (Kaski), February: Saptari, Morang & Chitwan, March: Bardiya, April: Tsho Rolpa Trek, May: Langtang Trek (Incomplete though), June: Jumla, July: Janakpur & Saptari, Sweden, August: Norway, September: Sindhupalchok, October: Doti & Achham, November: Pokhara, Landruk/ Australian Base Camp Short Trek (all of them in Kaski district), December: Gosainkunda/ Helambu Trek

Health

I was healthy for two-thirds of the year but was ill for the last quarter of the year. And the last two months were devastating. I had to suffer a lot. While I was lying in the bed during the sickness, I was having a tough emotional state. Negativity would dominate my emotions and it was really frustrating. Not being able to ride cycle, play futsal and exposure to air pollution of Kathmandu added misery to my health and well being.

Professional growth

The year 2017 was the year of massive growth. Here are some the major highlights:

    • The intensive travels during the year were possible through my work in Saathi Sanga Manka Kura radio program and Sweden & Norway because of IYMS.
    • Got selected as Official Photographer/Social media manager of IYMS-2017. Also, IYMS won the Kind Causes online voting competition and I was a part of it.
    • Started doing wedding photography. It was during the end of the year 2017 when I did the first wedding shoot. And it went quite good. I’m sure I could have done way better. But surely doing the next time. 🙂
    • Spiritually, I was going good in the first half of the year. Instincts were getting better and stronger! However, with the degrading health, spirituality was left behind. It could have been way better but it didn’t.

Stories of rejection!

Besides the stories of progress and happiness, there were few instances in which I got rejected. Some of the major ones in which I got rejected were World Nomads travel writing scholarship which is going to be in Myanmar, 2018, SRHR TOT held in December 2017 in Thailand.

Blogging in the year 2017!
No of blog posts; 13

Oslo
The year 2017 was a year of self-reflection! Year full of self-realization but sometimes a bit too much of stagnant thoughts. A year full of commitments; some of them yet to be fulfilled! 2017 was a year of dreams; some of them already into actions and many of them yet to explore and enact. Had strong bond with newer people; left away companionship with negative people and many are yet to be filtered.

I am sure 2018 will be more fun, more adventures, better sleep, bigger smiles and laughter, less negativity, less stress, more productivity, more love and after all a great satisfaction. 2018 will be the year of dreams, aspiration, and exploration; a strong drive to be a good human being.

How’s your year 2017 guys? And resolutions for the year 2018? Do share your thoughts! 🙂

Wishing you all a very happy new year! And 2018, bring it on!!!

About the author

I come from the land of Gurkhas; the brave soldiers who fought tirelessly and didn’t let any countries rule Nepal. Because of those Gorkhalis, the Nepalese are proud to call “Nepal has always been an independent nation so far.” Nepalese Flag is the world’s only non-quadrilateral national flag; red color symbolizing the bravery and blue symbolizes peace and harmony. What a proud thing. Also Nepal was a Hindu Kingdom in the past and now a secular state welcoming people from all the religions. Nepal is a country of living heritages and Kathmandu a city of temples. All in all, Nepal is a country with Unity in Diversity. Thank you for reading the boring random shits. These things don’t relate to me in anyway. And those are not the things that describe me. If I introduce myself with the common voices of any nationality, group or community, it’s nothing but a sheer stupidity. A part of it can be a shared introduction but not fully. So who am I? I don’t know who I am. It’s been years of SEARCH but nothing has been excavated yet. And also, I am not the right person to describe who I am. It's you who know me and whatever I say about me makes no sense. You tell me who I am ;)
